Dress Making Report: 1970's Secret Garden Shoot

As those of you who follow me know, I love my collaboration shoots! It's great to be able to get a team of incredible creatives together and bring to life moments like these. THIS dress was so much fun to create. From finding this perfect lace, which challenged me because I had never worked with it before. It had quite a stretch to it and with the beautiful lines it has, patience and a good eye really needed to be used for this one. I wanted to do a 1970's piece because I think it is so wonderful to create from different eras, so be prepared to see some other staple pieces from specific times. The sleeves, neckline and hemline make this dress exactly what it is meant to be, timeless. Take a gander at what our amazing team did together and with only 15 minutes of light on the day of the shoot.

Dress Making Report: Oh my Lace

Who doesn't just LOVE lace?! It is definitely one of my favourite fabric, it comes in all different textures, weights and colours. You can use it to dress up any dress, top, skirt, or even jean shorts. When your a designer fabric shopping is your happy place. Where you can find that perfect one to create something basically out of nothing.

Every single time I shop for a client and I find that exact fabric I was looking for, O-M-G such an awesome feeling! I know she's going to love it and it gets us so much closer to making all her dress dreams come true. Now, some clients can be very vague when it comes to the fabric, colour etc and others can be so specific, I may have to dig through piles and bins to find that needle in a hay stack. BUT, when finding that exact colour in the lace overlay and lets say a satin underlay, it's like the universe knew I would go crazy if I don't get exactly what I am looking.

That's when this amazing dress for a Momma on her baby's baptism day was born! I love the uniqueness of this dress and oh that keyhole back. My client loved it oh so much.

"Getting my custom dress from Amanda was great. The dress was made for my daughters baptism and I received a lot of compliments on it! Having two kids doesn't leave me with a lot of time but Amanda was accommodating knowing this. She also altered and changed the bow on my older daughters dress to match my dress. My whole family matched :) The Dress made me feel pretty and it was very comfy. What's great is, it can be altered if I ever need because it's custom! Love it!"

Dress Making Report: A Fall Inspired Wedding Shoot

At the end of August, I did an amazing collaboration with quite a few talented ladies. This Fall elopement shoot was incredible. We just got to the location just after a storm passed at 8am, it was a bit chilly that morning and very windy. But as we all arrived and got every thing set up, Models dressed and camera ready. It got warm, blue skies appeared and the sun created such great light peaking through the woods.

Claireville Conservation in Brampton, Ontario is like a dream. Especially for a photo shoot, we had several landscapes to choose. From rolling Hills to a rocky road and even into the woods, no wonder we all had such a fabulous day!

The couple were gorgeous and really so in love, which truly takes your breath away with such intimate moments. I was lucky to be apart of something so very special.

Creating this dress was really wonderful, from the first designs to the day of the shoot. It is romantic and flowing plus a little flirty underneath the beautiful veil like removable skirt. I love the way the wind carries and fills it up in some of the gorgeous pictures by Roxana Silva Photography.

I hope this inspires you and fills you with so much joy!

Dress Making Report: Stylized Wedding Shoot

A few months ago I created a dress for a rustic stylized wedding shoot. A great collaboration of local businesses coming together thanks to Michelle Liane, an amazing photographer that brought her vision alive with through local businesses. The shoot was fantastic, set in Caledon, ON, she used the elements of the earth, and with the help of the wind shot some beautifully breath taking pictures.

From the moment this dress was together, I fell in love! Every time I walked into my living room and saw it, this rush of excitement went through my veins. Start to finish this was a fun, whimsical piece to create. Thank you so much Michelle Liane Photography for including me in this fabulous experience.

I am so proud to have been apart of this and so excited that we were featured on The Bride Link blog.

Dress Making Report: A Fun and Flirty dress

This dress was so lovely to create, from finding the fabric to piecing it together. I loved every minute of it. The lace overlay is gorgeous and the sleeves give it an elegance you just can not deny. To be worn for two weddings, my client was so pleased with the outcome, she had to put it on again when she got home from picking it up. I am so happy to help her illuminate the room with her presence in this beautiful piece. I can not wait to see the photographs.

Dresses should be made to be versatile as often as possible. I believe that with this one you can dress it up or down and wear it all throughout the year.

Every time you wear a dress it should help you to feel radiant and free. Free to be exactly yourself and comfortable throughout your entire day or event. I know what it feels like to be uncomfortable in your own skin and it helps so much to wear a piece of clothing that helps dissolve those feelings. A.M.E.G. Photo Shoot: Deconstructed Wedding Dress

Have you ever taken something apart and put it back together again in a different way, or just the way it was before?(Pretty amazing if you can)  This is something I love to do with dresses, especially wedding dresses.

A.M.E.G. Designs can take your wonderful wedding dress from any decade and turn it into something new and fitting just for you.

In July I did a photo shoot with 'Michelle Liane Photography'. We had such a great time with this shoot, it was so elegant and we were able to use this very special room.  I took a wedding dress from the 90's and transformed it into the perfect fit for my client/model. She was just stunning, and it just so happened to work with a hat I made last July in a Millinery course that I took.  I am so happy with the way these photos turned out and would like to thank Michelle for her keen eye and understanding of exactly what my inspiration was. Please take a look and enjoy!

Dress Making Report: De-constructed Wedding Dress

Last year, a friend of mine gave me her wedding dress from the 90's and told me to use it to my hearts content. I completely changed the entire look of it! A client came to my house to discuss, the dress for two weddings, and fell in love with what I had started doing with it. I have now finished the dress and will be having our final fitting today, she will be able to take it home and wear it where ever she thinks it will be perfect for.  We will be doing a photo shoot with 'Michelle Liane Photography', including the hat I created last July in the shoot, so stay tuned for those lovely photos.

My Own Projects: From Wedding Dress tulle to a full flirty skirt

I love deconstructing dresses and making something new from them. My cousin resently gave me her dress and I made an awesome Tulle skirt from it! I will be doing a photo shoot with 'Michelle Liane Photography' some time in early 2015, but for now here it is.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! XOXOX

Dress Making Report: The Baptism Dress

Here is the process of making the Baptism dress mostly from scratch. I had to make sleeves and enlarge certain parts of the pattern. I also hand beaded along the lace and made a headband to add a little something extra. Please enjoy and stay tuned for pictures from a photo shoot.
