Dress Making Report: A Spring Photoshoot

Last month I created a simply elegant bohemian wedding dress for a Spring Photoshoot with Michelle Liane Photography. 

My favourite thing about these collaboration shoots, is that I am given a rough idea and can run with it. Being creative is one of the best things life can offer, the joy I feel when it all comes together is just the greatest thing!

Working with so many other amazing creatives is so worth while. You will see that the beauty that comes from each of us illuminates through the moments that were captured in the shoot.

Dress Making Report: A Fall Inspired Wedding Shoot

At the end of August, I did an amazing collaboration with quite a few talented ladies. This Fall elopement shoot was incredible. We just got to the location just after a storm passed at 8am, it was a bit chilly that morning and very windy. But as we all arrived and got every thing set up, Models dressed and camera ready. It got warm, blue skies appeared and the sun created such great light peaking through the woods.

Claireville Conservation in Brampton, Ontario is like a dream. Especially for a photo shoot, we had several landscapes to choose. From rolling Hills to a rocky road and even into the woods, no wonder we all had such a fabulous day! 

The couple were gorgeous and really so in love, which truly takes your breath away with such intimate moments. I was lucky to be apart of something so very special. 

Creating this dress was really wonderful, from the first designs to the day of the shoot. It is romantic and flowing plus a little flirty underneath the beautiful veil like removable skirt. I love the way the wind carries and fills it up in some of the gorgeous pictures by Roxana Silva Photography.

Dress Making Report: Flower Girl Dress

Isn't she the sweetest? This is one happy little client of mine, she was so excited for her dress. I think this day was the most she spoke to me. After putting it on she was spinning and jumping around, "oh Amanda it's beautiful and it spins up to my waist", words I can't seem to forget. But WHY would I? She is my youngest client to choose the style she wanted and a big pink bow for the back. I also decked out a flower girl basket , which she "walk down the isle" of my living room with. I love kids they are just so joyful and excited about everything! A lot like me most of the time. In addition to her Mom's wedding dress, I also created a ring bearer pillow for the wedding. All in all I am super excited to see the pictures from Jamaica!

Spring and Summer Events!

My oh my, spring and summer events of all shapes and sizes are upon us. From proms, weddings and fashion shows I am starting to get very busy with custom dress orders! A few of these orders are very dear to my heart, as they are to be apart of one of my best friends weddings in Havana. But stay tuned for later on in the summer for sneak peeks of all those lovely creations.

As for right now, I am creating dresses for weddings, grade 8 graduations and fashion shows. I love that each of these dresses are so different and I can really have some fun. Not to mention my wonderful clients that I get to work with. I will be posting more of these with in the next few months. Really, I just wanted to share because I am so excited to help illuminate these women for these events with each piece. I know they will all go to their events and light up the whole room! This is my whole goal, my reason for being a custom dress designer, to relieve whatever insecurity she may have about her body and watch how radiant she becomes in her perfect bespoke fit dress. All women deserve this, and if I can do this for even just one, well then I have done my job.

Alterations: Flower Girls

Recently I added to tulle and bustled a beautiful wedding dress for a client, see 'Alterations: Here come the brides!'. She then asked if I would be able to take-in one and add tulle to both of her beautiful daughters flower girl dresses. Of course I took on the task, plus I absolutely love working with these little dresses. The girls were so perfect standing for their fittings, I was very impressed.  As for the flower girl dresses, they turned out really well and my client was so happy!

Alterations: Here come the brides!

Recently, I altered a few bridal gowns in ways to improve how they fit and feel on the bride. 

Like my previous post 'Alterations: It's Wedding Season!' I added a lace up back to a beautiful tea-length dress. Sometimes we order smaller and it will be our "goal" to get to that size, but life happens and things change. That is where your local seamstress will come in very handy! I was able to add loops for a lace up back for my client and it now fits her perfectly.  

When dealing with a dress that has a decorative bottom or ruffles that go on a diagonal, it can be hard to hem. Sometimes you can fix it from the waist line seam but this end up being quite a large alteration. Instead adding some extra tulle to lift it up just enough so that you can walk without stepping on your beautiful dress. I did this and a bustle for a client, it turned out really well and she won't have that to worry about on her big day.

For me even the smallest alteration is important because on your day you shouldn't worry about the dress. Just walk down that isle and marry the man or woman of your dreams.

Alterations: It's wedding season!

Wedding season has certainly arrived for me, I have been doing many alterations for gowns that just haven't fit right after being picked up by the bride or bridal party. I have hemmed, bustled and adjusted many gowns already and it is only the end of May! I love it! All that I do, is to help make every client who has to wear a dress comfortable for the big day, what ever part they may be playing in it. Ladies, a very good tip to know when purchasing a dress that will be custom ordered, get one to two sizes larger depending on your body type. Always ask questions, it is a lot easier to take in than to let out.  I am very happy to say that I can help when things don't fit right, it is always amazing to have your own local seamstress.
