Facebook: Dress of the Week

Dress of the Week:

Although this dress is very sheer, it is incredibly beautiful. I love the neckline and placement of the straps on the shoulders.  Flowing and whimsical, I love how delicate this dress is.  The beading of course is so amazing also, as I know working with beads on a sheer fabric is no walk in the park, this however was done so very well!

Dress of the Week:

What drew me to this dress definitely had to be the colour, this emerald green is fantastic!  The tailoring of this dress is done so well and every pleat is perfect. I also love the key hole at the neck line, it gives this dress just the added character it needs.

Dress of the Week:

I am so in love with patterned fabric, especially since I made ‘The Batman Dress’, and this I think is so perfect.  The ruched top with sweat-heart neckline is so classic and adds a nice twist to this simple style. This dress could be worn in a wedding, to a wedding, to prom, or any other wonderful night where you need to look elegant and flawless.

Dress of the Week:

This dress is elegance at its best, I only wish I could see the front but I think the back speaks very much for itself.  I love how the ruffles start from the straps and spread all the way down the length of the dress. Stunning shape and style. LOVE!

Dress of the Week:

I chose this dress this week because of the unbelievable embroidery work. It may be a little bit much but it is so beautiful. I really appreciate how much time and work went into the making of this garment. I think that even if a dress seems to be over the top, the work should definitely get some applause.

Dress of the Week:

I absolutely love this dress! One because the lace is gorgeous and two because it is simply beautiful. The belt to emphasize the waist adds the perfect touch. I also love nude fabrics, I may very well make a dress like this or at least one with nude lace.

Dress of the Week:

I LOVE this dress because it reminds me a flappers dress, very 1920’s, which is one of the many eras of fashion that I love. It’s an A-Line, and almost has an empire waist, with fantastic beading that gives this dress elegance and great length. The loose cap sleeves gives this dress such character. Well done on this one, wonderful!

Dress of the Week:

Another simple style, but it has so much character! With this beautiful blue lace which was most likely sewn onto the fabric. This process takes a lot of work and skill, along with the beading this dress is magnificently made. I also love the undertone of fabric, it really pops that lace. Amazing!

I absolutely love this dress! Amazing flowing fabric with beaded cap sleeves (I’m sure by now you all know I love beading!). You could add such wonderful accessories to this dress, I see bling bling all over this. What a great piece of work!

The Wedding Dress

Here is the wedding dress from beginning to end, you saw all the parts in the middle in 'Dress Making Report: A Wedding Dress', this is the short version.  Everything starts with an idea, and is amazing when it comes together into something unbelievable.  My client was in love with it and can't wait to be able to wear it to other fun places.

This dress is elegant and so much fun at the same time. It may be a very simple style but the beading is incredible, gives it so much texture and shine. I chose this dress because it is so unique and beautiful, the work speaks for itself.

Dress Making Report: The Batman Dress

A few friends of mine decided to get this dress for a friends birthday.  I am totally in love with batman and had to accept! This fabric is amazing, and was totally wonderful to work with (100% Cotton, Batman pattern, perfect!). Also, with this one I got to put the images together as best I could to make it look like a comic, which was awesome.  Maria loves the joker so I put him right in the middle of it all.  Happy Birthday Maria!! I hope it is everything you wanted and more!

Fabrics: Cotton

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in bolls. It is almost pure cellulose and when the bolls get blown in the wind the seeds disperse more so then when done manually. Cotton is spun into yarn or thread to make a soft, breathable fabric.  It goes back to prehistoric times about 7000 yrs ago, which is just incredible, but I wouldn't expect anything less from this fantastic natural fiber.  Since Cotton Gin was created in 1793, the price was lowered and it became the most widely used natural fiber and still is today.

I chose Cotton because I have recently been working on a dress(batman dress below), using this fabric and must say it is wonderful to work with.  It doesn't have too much stretch, so it is great for pinning, cutting and it moves easily through the presser foot on the sewing machine.  Cotton creates a great structure for dresses and is great for anytime of year.  I love working with this fabric, as you can create so many pieces with it.  I am looking forward to using it in my many upcoming household projects, such as; pillow coverings and in the making a an ottoman cushion.
