A Humber College Event:'Fashion Comes Home'

'Fashion Comes Home' was a fashion networking night at Humber College, Lakeshore Campus. Being an Alumni I was invited and incredibly glad I went. The postgraduates did an amazing job organizing a perfect night of fashion over 100 years. They set up an exhibit that was wonderfully put together of fashions throughout the 1900's. The night had a great overall mood, with Jazz music and old movies playing in the background. I was able to see a few of my teachers from 5 years ago now, and speak with them about my accomplishments over the past few years. It was so wonderful to see them and to hear that they are doing and exploring new great things in their lives also. One of my very best friends came along with me and really enjoyed herself, especially when we got to dress up and take pictures in the photo booth. Overall we had a great time and would absolutely go to another event when an occasion arises again.

'Classic Designer Month: Renié Conley'

Renié Conley is our next Classic Designer of the month. Wow what this woman created will be known forever. In the 1963 film 'Cleopatra', the dress that Elizabeth Taylor wears complete with gold headdress, jewellery and 24-carat cape. This was an incredibly breathtaking work of art, it was designed to look like the wings a phoenix. The cape itself was created from strips of gold-painted leather and embellished with thousands of beads and sequins. She won a Oscar for this masterpiece, I think we can all see why!

Conley also designed this very fetching bathing suit for Marilyn Monroe along with several other outfits that were perfect for the actress.

Our first is amazing designer, Edith Head! She is known as the costume designer for many movies such as All About Eve (Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe), Rear Window (Grace Kelly) and The Sting. She won 8 Academy Awards for costume design a record she still holds today! Head was brilliant and her technique was very wide ranged as she created wonderfully simple designs to elaborately flamboyant.
