Dress Making Report: Stylized Wedding Shoot

 

A few months ago I created a dress for a rustic stylized wedding shoot. A great collaboration of local businesses coming together thanks to Michelle Liane, an amazing photographer that brought her vision alive with through local businesses. The shoot was fantastic, set in Caledon, ON, she used the elements of the earth, and with the help of the wind shot some beautifully breath taking pictures.

From the moment this dress was together, I fell in love! Every time I walked into my living room and saw it, this rush of excitement went through my veins. Start to finish this was a fun, whimsical piece to create. Thank you so much Michelle Liane Photography for including me in this fabulous experience.

Alterations: Here come the brides!

Recently, I altered a few bridal gowns in ways to improve how they fit and feel on the bride. 

Like my previous post 'Alterations: It's Wedding Season!' I added a lace up back to a beautiful tea-length dress. Sometimes we order smaller and it will be our "goal" to get to that size, but life happens and things change. That is where your local seamstress will come in very handy! I was able to add loops for a lace up back for my client and it now fits her perfectly.  

When dealing with a dress that has a decorative bottom or ruffles that go on a diagonal, it can be hard to hem. Sometimes you can fix it from the waist line seam but this end up being quite a large alteration. Instead adding some extra tulle to lift it up just enough so that you can walk without stepping on your beautiful dress. I did this and a bustle for a client, it turned out really well and she won't have that to worry about on her big day.

For me even the smallest alteration is important because on your day you shouldn't worry about the dress. Just walk down that isle and marry the man or woman of your dreams.

Where it began

It started when I made my sisters wedding dress 3 years ago, that's when I knew this is what I am meant to do.  I love creating something from a few pieces of fabric and thread that is absolutely breathtaking.  The goal I strive to reach with every client is to make their dress dreams come true.  Knowing I have made the happiness in their heart shine is such a blessing for me and why wouldn't I want to be apart of that joy.

Every bride wants to have the opportunity to try on gowns, and think that getting a custom made dress, this won’t be possible. My goal is for you to experience the entire making of the dress from trying on dresses, the choosing of the fabric, to the fitting. I want to get to know every bride so that while making the dress they know how personal it really is. My very first dress was my sister’s wedding dress and this is also where I came up with the idea to incorporate the bride into the making of the dress.  

Starting with trying on dresses, I need to know the shape and cut that will best fit the bride in order to find the perfect pattern for her; also this gives the bride an idea of what it will feel like with the final product. After finding the perfect fit we will find a simple pattern that is similar that I can add to or a difficult pattern that includes all the bride’s needs and wants. Then the bride will be able to pick her fabrics whether its lace or silk she will be a part of every aspect in the making of her beautiful dress. The dress is the most important part of the wedding other than the vow’s, you’re the only person he wants to see on this magical day, why not have exactly what you want.
